"MerkWares" is just a play on my last name and could be interpreted as "Stuff I Make". The "M" in the MerkWares logo features the representation of tooth and talon. Signifying that while we are not naturally endowed with such tools we are blessed with the skill and knowledge to make our own.

The Emberlit Stove was my first idea to venture out into the world. It was that stove that launched MerkWares.

I still work out of my garage tinkering and developing ideas with the goal of designing gear that encourages meaningful and fun interaction with nature by honoring the old skills.  In my opinion, a good outing means coming home with dirt under your nails and the smell of campfire in your clothes.
