Emberlit Flint and Steel - Blanket Pin

This is a multi function Flint and Steel Striker. Think of it sort of like a medieval safety pin. Also known as a "Penannular", these Blanket pins let you wear wool blankets much like a cloak or hoodie. There really is something special about the combined warmth of a campfire and thick wool blanket draped over your shoulders.

It is made from high carbon steel right here in Utah. Because of the nature of these pins I personally heat treated and fit each Blanket Pin Striker so they bear my touchmark. As such no two are perfectly identical and come with an oil finish. We have suitable stone for striking sparks if you can't find any in your area.

Flint and Steel Strikers can rust and tarnish. This is why they cast a spark when struck against stone; rust is just a slow form of burning. This is only cosmetic and harmless. They polish up easily with an abrasive sponge or sand paper.

Great Piece of Kit

I received my Penannular (blanket pin) brooch in the mail last week. This works great and just a super idea! I really like multi-purpose tools and this can be used not just as a brooch for your wool accessories, but as an awl, and for making fire as well, and I'm sure other things I haven't thought of! The styling presents the usual simple elegance that Emberlit has designed in it's other products. You can be sure that you'll have a unique piece among whatever enthusiasts you hang-out with. I have a "Mountain Man" jacket custom made from a US Navy wool blanket - it looks and works great!!! I use as a steel as well to make fire. It seems to me that the tempering and type of steel from Emberlit works far better than my other steels I got off e-bay and some "viking" website - this really throws some great sparks. The only comparable steel is the "Horse" steel I bought from Emberlit last month. They both are great. Thanks to Mikhail for making such beautiful products that are high-quality and will become heirlooms for sure!

Everything a Brooch should be.

I bought this a while back for helping secure my blanket around myself during bushcraft outings. It has become a welcomed staple in my fire building kit. The steel works great, casts sparks with no problem and is easy to hold. It’s a good brooch (obviously) but the point has plenty of bite to be used as an awl for leather working or surprise repairs. A little bit of surgical tubing for 3 bucks will cover you for a while if you’re worried about poking yourself. Just cut about 2.5 inches off, tie into a knot, and slip it on the end. Solid product, can’t wait for the restock!

Neat

It works well as just a blanket pin and isn't a bad as a flint and steel, just gotta watch the spike not going into your hand. It also works for a ferro rod striker and since it's made of iron ( I assume) you can ward off evil spirit's. The pin/awl is sharp, strong, sturdy, and dependable. I like what these guys came up with.

Well made & multifunctional

I received one as a gift, and put it through my normal rigorous testing. The striker works fairly well, the pin works great as a field awl, and the overall size is perfect, and it could be used as a hanger or rope rope tensioner too. The edges are a bit sharp and need dehorning. I think a flathead screwdriver could be added for even more betterness. Overall a good piece of kit.
